Tulips!

3 May 2007

I love bright colours, and hence flowers (especially tulips) are one of my favourite photography subjects.

It was great to be back at Keukenhof again, this time armed with a DSLR instead of a 35mm film camera, even though I was still fairly inexperienced with the DSLR.

More photos of tulips here.

Snow!

8 February 2007

Taken with my new Canon EOS 30D camera.

It snowed heavily that day and I made full use of the opportunity to take some shots at Hyde Park in the freezing condition.

Sydney

13 July 2006

Sydney Opera House is probably the most iconic building in Australia. However, a close look revealed that it is quite old and not as nice as seen from postcards, TV, etc.

Darling harbour is so beautiful at sunset.

Sydney Harbour Bridge, yet another iconic structure in Australia.

Price of War

9 July 2006

This photo is perhaps a good reminder to the sorrows of war. Unfortunately, humanity hasn't seem to learn to avoid wars... perhaps will never will.

Taken in the War Museum in Canberra.

R.I.P. - My Canon Powershot S2 IS

I found out that my favourite P&S camera has turned blind upon Johanna and my arrival in Amsterdam for our holiday trip on 3rd May.

Based on my internet searches, most likely the CCD is gone as many similar problems have been reported on this model.

I've approached a repair shop in Tottenham Court Road few days ago to find out what is wrong with the camera. My worst fear was confirmed - damaged CCD. The repair will cost £110, which is not worth repairing in my opinion.

It's quite sad considering that this camera is less than 2 years old. I'll definitely miss the 12x optical zoom.

From now onwards, my Canon EOS 30D will get my full attention.

FRIM trip

20 May 2006

Johanna & I had a photo outing at the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) with Ozzy. It was my first time at FRIM despite having the intention to visit the place for many years.

What a great place to get in touch with nature, and of course, for photography.

Lotus

This photo was taken outside a small restaurant in Haadyai. There are plenty of lotuses planted along the streets of Haadyai.

Past Glory

28 December 2005

Reminiscence of George Town's past Glory... Located on an island once described as the Pearl of Orient, George Town is the first City in Malaysia. Unfortunately, due to political reasons, this Pearl has lost its glow for a long time. Even though still recognised as the second largest city in Malaysia internationally, it is not recognised as a city by the current Government.

The following photos are taken on my visit to George Town with Johanna to settle some arrangements for our wedding.

We were on our way to see the florist at Cititel when I chanced upon this wall on an old building. This is a wall that many photographers will salivate over. Coupled with a trishaw, it was a perfect scene to shoot.

Until today I can't decide which of these three are my favourite. But they are all my all time favourites thus far. The two dogs and the trishaw owner painting his trishaw do provide something extra to the photos.

Petaling Street (Part 2)

More photos from around Petaling Street. A Chinese temple and a hawker stall outside the temple.

Petaling Street (Part 1)

24 December 2005

My office is not too far from the 'Chinatown' of Kuala Lumpur. Anyway I never thought of it as a Chinatown since there are so many Chinese in Malaysia.

I went there on a fine weekend to take some shots. These are some of the things on sale at the stalls along the street.

Fun Fair at Bandar Utama

15 November 2005

Yet another night outing. Tough one this time - catching fast moving objects under extremely low light conditions.

There was this temporary fun fair at Bandar Utama. Johanna is an avid fan of thrill and speed, a daredevil behind the wheels too. So while I went around looking for nice things to shoot, she went around having some great rides. She managed to persuade me to take a ride with her later on. I'll prefer to keep the experience to myself.

One thing I noticed about the following photos - They all lacked the human element. I remember trying to shoot a photo of a girl on a merry-go-round, but it didn't turn out too well. A lot of room for improvement I would say.
